France is considering a proposal to tax online advertising revenues earned by companies such as Google. The proposal would extend to other companies such as Microsoft and Yahoo and would put an end to "enrichment without any limit or compensation," newspaper Liberation quoted Guillaume Cerutti, one of the supporters of the proposal, as saying. Under the proposal, the revenue collected from taxing online advertisers as well as Internet providers would go towards helping creative sectors...

Although it's hard to predict the split between thank you notes and hate mail, Google's accountants may be receiving a lot of letters over the next few days. It looks like Google managed to avoid paying about $725 million in taxes in the UK last year. Back in April, The Sunday Times determined that Google saved itself $160 million in 2007 thanks to its practice of channeling revenues through Ireland instead of Britain. More than a few people protested the shuffle, arguing that Google wasn't...

The report is based on the requirement of a federal license for operators that would allow them to offer online gambling throughout the United States, while keeping the federal prohibition on any form of sports betting. "This analysis further reinforces the fact that a regulated environment will generate billions in new revenue...

The Sunday Times hired an accountant to investigate Google, and Robert Watts reported this weekend, "More than 90% of Google's UK revenues are channelled through Ireland, where corporation...
